Cathedral of St. John the Divine (Manhattan)

I visited the Cathedral of St. John the Divine while staying near Central Park. I took a short walk to the bus stop, then rode the bus toward a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts to grab a coffee before continuing on foot to the cathedral. Even though I didn’t go inside, I spent time walking around the grounds, and it was definitely worth it. The cathedral is enormous and majestic, with tall spires and a large footprint. It’s one of the largest churches in the world, and you can feel its presence just walking near it. Next to the cathedral, there is a sculpture garden with a unique piece surrounded by small sculptures of open books and other symbolic objects. If you enjoy history and meaning in art, you’ll find this spot interesting. The inscriptions on the sculpture offer insight into its message, and I found it peaceful and thought-provoking. After exploring this area, I walked toward Sakura Park, which is located behind Columbia University. Along the way, I passed through Columbia’s campus and saw another beautiful cathedral, where I stopped to take some photos. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this part of New York City. It’s not a long walk, and along the way, you’ll see stunning architecture, green spaces, and meaningful artwork. Even if you don’t go inside the cathedral, the area itself is calm, inspiring, and culturally rich.
