According to sources such as the "Shinpen Musashi Fudokiko" (a geography book of Musashi Province compiled during the Bunka and Bunsei periods (1804-1829)), the statue of Kishimojin enshrined at Zoshigaya Kishimojin Hall was excavated in Kiyoto (current Kiyoto Kishimojin Hall) in 1561 and was originally housed in Toyobo (later Daigyoin), a subtemple of Homyoji Temple, but was placed here when the people of Zoshigaya village built a hall in 1578. The current Zoshigaya Kishimojin Hall was built with the main hall donated by Jishōin, the wife of Asano Mitsuakira, the second lord of Hiroshima, in 1664, and the Aino-ma and worship hall were added in 1700. Since then, it has flourished as one of Edo's famous places, attracting faith from samurai to commoners. The grounds include Takeyoshi Inari, Hofudodo, and a 700-year-old large ginkgo tree designated as a natural monument of Tokyo.
