But the scenery instantly made us forget the fatigue—black lava fields, steaming geothermal areas, and snow-capped mountains faintly visible in the distance, as if we'd traveled back to the Ice Age. The most magical part? It's so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat—truly "cut off from the world." ⚠️ Important Notes: Vehicle: You must rent a 4x4! Regular cars can't handle the terrain, which is full of gravel and mud pits. Gear: Bring plenty of food, water, and warm clothing. There's literally nothing here—not even toilets! Safety: Not recommended for solo travelers. Go with companions and inform locals of your itinerary. 🍽️ Nearby Eats: After the adventure, head to Strikið in Akureyri.
