Hiroshima: A Deep Journey in a City Embracing Peace

Hiroshima was the city that made me reflect the most during my trip to Japan. Despite its painful history, it conveyed a warm message of hope and peace. The first place I visited was the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Standing in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome, which still bears the scars of war, my steps naturally slowed. At the Peace Memorial Museum, the vivid records and artifacts on display weighed heavily on my heart. Yet, the peace monuments scattered throughout the park and the paper cranes made by children conveyed a sense of hope. Afterward, I took a ferry to Miyajima. The red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, seemingly floating on the sea, was truly breathtaking. Especially during high tide, when the torii gate is partially submerged in water, it exuded a mystical aura. The freely roaming deer in the area added a touch of charm. Hiroshima’s cuisine is also a must-try. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layered with noodles, vegetables, and seafood, was hearty and delicious. The seasonal Hiroshima oyster dishes were fresh and flavorful. Lastly, I visited Hiroshima Castle. Although it’s a reconstructed building, its serene surroundings left a lasting impression. The exhibitions inside the castle provided insights into Hiroshima’s history and culture. Hiroshima is a city that remembers its history while spreading a message of peace. It’s also a destination where you can enjoy nature, tradition, and culinary delights. More than just a sightseeing spot, it offered a unique experience that will stay with me for a long time.
