Hokkaido's 'Centennial Women's Convent'

A Red Brick Gothic Romanesque Architectural Style. The Centennial Women's Convent, located in Hakodate, is Japan's first convent for women. It was established by eight nuns sent from France and still houses several dozen nuns practicing their faith today. Only the front courtyard and the exhibition room are open to visitors, while the inner areas where the nuns practice are strictly off-limits. Visitors are required to maintain silence 🤫. There is a small shop where you can purchase souvenirs such as postcards, crosses, and cookies 🍪 made by the nuns. Across from the convent's entrance, there is a small shop selling delicious milk soft-serve ice cream, which is very popular—almost everyone has one in hand.
