🧀 Say Cheese in Furano! A Delightful Dairy Stopover

We stopped by the Furano Cheese Factory during our visit to Hokkaido, and it turned out to be a fun and unexpectedly enjoyable experience. The building itself has a charming, almost Alpine feel, nestled in a quiet part of town surrounded by trees. It felt peaceful the moment we stepped out of the car. Inside, we got to see part of the cheese-making process through glass windows. There’s also a tasting area, which was the best part for me—especially the soft camembert and smoked cheese. They even had lavender-flavored cheese, which sounded strange at first, but actually worked surprisingly well. Apart from cheese, there’s an ice cream stand right next door, and their cheese-flavored soft serve was delicious—rich, creamy, and not too sweet. We also tried some of their fresh milk and butter products, which were equally good. You can tell everything is made with care using high-quality local ingredients. The place is quite family-friendly, and I noticed some kids trying their hand at making butter in one of the side workshops. It’s not a huge place, but it’s well worth the short stop if you’re in the Furano area.
