Review of a trip to Bern, the charming capital of Switzerland.

When thinking of Switzerland, many might immediately think of Geneva, Lucerne, or Zurich. However, the actual capital is "Bern"! And let me tell you, it’s absolutely enchanting. Especially for those who love traditional European old towns, this is a must-visit destination. 🌿 ⸻ 📍 Getting There I started my journey from Lucerne, taking a train to Bern, which took just over an hour. The train was direct, very comfortable, and, of course, perfectly on time as you’d expect in Switzerland! Once you arrive at the central train station, you can walk straight into the old town since everything is close by and easily accessible on foot. 🚶♀️ ⸻ 🏰 Highlights Not to Miss 1. Old Town (Altstadt) Bern’s old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient buildings are well-preserved, the streets are cobblestone, and the shops are incredibly charming. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, taking photos, and finding a cozy café to relax in. ☕ 2. Zytglogge (The Clock Tower) This iconic clock tower, nearly a thousand years old, features moving figurines that perform a delightful dance every hour. It’s a popular gathering spot for tourists. 3. Bundeshaus (Swiss Parliament Building) You can visit for free (with prior registration) or simply admire it from the outside. The view behind the parliament building offers a stunning sight of the crystal-clear blue Aare River. 💙 4. Bear Park The name "Bern" comes from the word "Bär," which means "bear." Hence, there’s a bear park located near the Aare River. When I visited, there were several brown bears roaming around. 🐻 ⸻ 🍽 Recommended Food Try Rösti (crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside fried potatoes) paired with sausages or indulge in rich and creamy Cheese Fondue. 😋 And if you pass by a market or bakery in the old town, don’t miss out on authentic Swiss bread and chocolate! ⸻ 📝 Final Impressions Bern may not be the largest or most bustling city in Switzerland, but it’s brimming with charm. It’s peaceful, perfect for a relaxing stroll, and steeped in history. Ideal for those who enjoy slow travel, beautiful photography, and soaking in the atmosphere of traditional Europe. 🍃
