There are only 28 stave churches left in Norway. In the early eleventh century, Christianity was introduced to Norway and accepted by the Vikings. The Vikings used shipbuilding technology to build churches, so some churches are shaped like a Viking ship, with dragon heads at the bow and stern, as well as on the roof, and scale tiles. People believed that dragons could ward off evil forces. The whole church exudes a unique Nordic mysterious atmosphere. In the 15th and 16th centuries, many stave churches underwent some changes, causing them to lose some of their ancient features. 1. Heddal stave church ⛪️The largest in Norway. The church was built in the early 13th century. 2. Roldal stave church ⛪️The stave church is very old and dark, and has stood at the entrance of the village for more than 800 years. 3.
