Shiga: A Place I Can't Forget! 🇯🇵✨
#summervacay
Shiga truly is a place that stays with you. I found it to be incredibly comfortable, with few crowds and beautiful scenery – absolutely perfect for a relaxing trip, especially if you're traveling with elderly family members.
Getting there was straightforward: I took the JR from Kyoto Station for about 30 minutes until I reached Shiga Station. From there, I had to wait a bit for a shuttle bus, which then took me to the base of the mountain. The highlight was definitely the 360-degree panoramic cable car ride up to the summit. The views from the top were truly healing for both my eyes and my soul! The mountaintop cafe also deserves a shout-out – their coffee was delicious, and the ice cream was fantastic. Everywhere I looked was a perfect photo opportunity; I'd recommend shooting with a wide-angle lens if you have one.
Just a heads-up: if you stay past 6 PM, there are no more shuttle buses, so you'll need to take a taxi back to Shiga Station.

Shiga Kogen
#japantrip Shiga Kogen area is a great place to ski as it is mostly connected to the other ski areas (save for a few which required bus transfer to) so there is less scope to get bored with skiing the same runs, good mix or green, red & black slopes, plenty of lunch food options outside of the Prince ski area. Relatively quiet with few lift queues, and close to snow (onsen) monkey park
One minor gripe is there are quite a few areas where you need to walk up gradients to get to ski lifts or neighbouring ski areas
One major detraction is the lack of any sort of night life once the skiing has finished for the day, with not many restaurants choices connected by the local shuttle

#japantrip A great resort with lots of different runs for different abilities. Interlocking resorts as well for easy skiing!
It has a few Olympic runs which are fantastic to experience!
Shiga has great restaurants, I recommend St Christoph.
I also recommend the peak mt Yokoteyama for some good views, black runs and a vintage bakery with amazing gratin!
Highly recommend

A Complete Guide to Skiing in Shiga Kogen for Your First New Year Trip
A complete guide to family skiing in Shiga Kogen for your first New Year trip🏂
For their first New Year trip, they finally made it to the long-awaited Nagano Shiga Kogen. Upon returning, they couldn't stop talking about the beautiful scenery. After calculating the expenses, I found it to be quite cost-effective. Here's a reference for those who are planning to go.
💰Overall Expenses
✈️Airfare: 4,000 for one adult and one child
🚄Shinkansen: Tokyo-Nagano 600 for one adult and one child
🚌Bus: Nagano Station-near the hotel 200 for one adult and one child
🏨Accommodation: Half board (breakfast and dinner) 600
🛍️Other expenses: 1,000
Total cost: Around 3,500💰 per person
❓Transportation
Beijing-Tokyo
Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano Station
Transfer to a special bus to Shiga Kogen
❓Accommodation
If you want to ski on different slopes on the east and west sides, it is recommended to stay in a hotel around the Shiga Kogen Grand Ski Area. Choose according to your budget. This time, they booked a hotel with friends, including half board (breakfast and dinner), which was cost-effective, but the environment was just average.
❓Ski Resort
This time, they checked in at the Yakushiyama Ski Resort and the Yokoteyama Ski Resort. Dad 👨 said that if you only choose one ski resort, he strongly recommends Yokoteyama. The scenery is 💯.

Enjoy nature at Shiga Kogen
In May, I visited Shiga Kogen by car. With the fresh air that is unique to plateaus and lush green scenery, I was impressed by the nature that showed different expressions every time I drove along the road. What was particularly impressive was the spectacular view surrounded by mountains and the cool climate. It was quite hot for May, but this place made me forget about it and felt like another world. The beautiful scenery made the drive even more enjoyable and refreshed my mind.

The spectacular Shiga Kogen Ski Resort
I went to Shiga Kogen Ski Resort. There wasn't much snow this year during the New Year holidays, but the heavy snowfall on January 16th brought the snowfall to about the same as usual.
I'd like to go to Shiga Kogen Ski Resort again.
I recommend the Ichinose area. Nishitateyama has a nice hooded quad.
