Here I am visiting Taicang for another weekend! This hidden gem of a city has endless treasures to discover. Beyond the well-known 72 Ideal Village and Liuhe Review Platform, there are so many fun and photogenic spots to explore. I've put together a two-day self-driving itinerary 🚗 If you don't want to travel too far during the May Day holiday, come here for a spring outing! D1 Shaxi Ancient Town ⇢ Nanyuan Garden ⇢ Rothenburg Themed Street D2 72 Ideal Village 🏘️ Shaxi Ancient Town A Jiangnan water town with over 1,300 years of history, with minimal commercialization. It still preserves ancient waterfront houses and streets from the Ming and Qing dynasties, filled with authentic local atmosphere everywhere. 🍃 Nanyuan Garden My most surprising discovery this time! A 600-year-old Suzhou classical garden full of Jiangnan water town features - zigzag bridges, stone arch bridges, and trailing white wisteria... Every step reveals a new view, and with few tourists, it's a truly pleasant experience. 🏛️ Rothenburg Themed Street A 1:1 replica of German-style architecture where you can also taste German cuisine. It feels like instantly teleporting to Europe. The buildings look especially stunning for photos when lit up in the evening. 🏡 72 Ideal Village Rainbow walkways, riverside lighthouse, windmills in wheat fields, and colorful little trains... Every time I visit, I think: "This really is the ideal vacation life!" Plus, the scenery changes every month. 🏨 Accommodation I recommend staying within 72 Ideal Village. I stayed at Tree Frog Tribe. It's not that I can't afford to go to Jeju Island. It's that Taicang is more cost-effective. An underestimated treasure small city |. 1h from Shanghai. Taicang is really healing Taicang really has a high cost-performance ratio. I took a one-day trip to Taicang over the weekend. Escaping the city is really comfortable and leisurely~ One-day tour route: Seventy-two Ideal Village - Liuhe Ancient Town - Alps - Nanyuan V Seventy-two Ideal Village: A very leisurely small village, close to the river, very close to Baoshan, it takes only 1 hour to get there from Shanghai. A quiet and comfortable small village, there is also a Sanlian Bookstore, and you can go to the riverside to enjoy the breeze, very suitable for weekends. V Rainbow Road: Both the village and the riverside road are painted with rainbows, many people walking their dogs, fewer people in the morning, strolling in the rain is very enjoyable. V Windmill Flower Field: Surrounded by greenery, there is also a colorful windmill, every casual shot looks good. V Rice Field Small Train: The small train can circle around the village, about 30 minutes, more suitable in the morning or evening, the scenery of the whole village is in full view. V Liuhe Parade Platform: It is the estuary of the Yangtze River, walking along the long embankment is very healing, you can see ships coming and going in the distance, the lighthouse is also very photogenic, many children are digging for crabs by the river, it looks very fun~ V Liuhe Ancient Town: A very underrated ancient town, it has a maritime culture, the starting point of Zheng He's voyages to the West, an old town of Jiangnan ancient port, very quiet, not many tourists even on weekends, very quaint, no crowds, really very comfortable. V Alps: There is a skiing area and a snow entertainment area inside. I played in the skiing area, got clothes, pants, helmets, and skis, and then you can play. Experiencing the ice and snow world in summer, simply love it, played for an hour inside, didn't want to come out~ V Nanyuan: Suzhou really doesn't lack gardens, Nanyuan is also very classic, very few people, the lotus flowers are in full bloom, come in the evening, as night falls and the lights come on, listening to the opera in Nanyuan, really marvel at the beauty of Jiangnan, the night view is very beautiful.

For the May Day holiday, I took my child on a parent-child trip. We first checked into a hotel in Taicang, then drove to the parade stand. Along the way, we ended up back in Shanghai for a bit, which made it seem like we should have just gone directly from Shanghai to the parade stand. The roadside two kilometers away from the scenic spot was filled with parked cars, so fearing that parking inside would be difficult, we parked more than two kilometers away and walked for almost an hour to get in. In fact, we arrived late, and many cars inside had already left; we should have parked closer. The parade stand is so named, but when we arrived after 5 p.m., the parade stand pavilion was not open. The main purpose was to dig for crabs by the river, so it's important to bring the right tools. The riverside here is different from the usual seaside mudflats. It's all large rocks and grass. Proper footwear is necessary. At around 5 p.m. on May 1st, it was low tide, and we saw others lifting rocks to search for crabs underneath. My child found a few small crabs the size of fingernails. We released them before leaving. Some people found larger ones. However, taking such small creatures home is a dead end, and they're not tasty either. Better to let them go on the spot. Behind the slope of the mudflat is the Seventy-Two Ideal Village. A suitable village with homestays, kayaking, and a boardwalk. At the boardwalk, we bought stinky tofu for 15 yuan from a stall and there was also a public restroom. After 6 p.m., the sun set. The child had enough fun, and we walked back to our parked car along the country road with flashlights in hand.
