Enjoy tea to your heart's content with Uncle Tea Maker at Tamjai Cafe
Today, my friend invited me to try tea. We went to Tamjai Cafe, a beautiful shop with lots of parking, located in the Mengjai area. I didn’t think Bangkok would be this shady. There were a lot of people, but there were also a lot of seats, both under the trees and in Thai houses. There was a variety of food, whether it was savory, sweet, Thai, or international, for all generations. The whole family was happy. The food starts at 100+. But today, we have to focus on tea because my friend invited me to try tea. We went to the tea zone where the uncle made the tea. If anyone wants to talk to the uncle, I recommend sitting at the bar like we did. Sit in front of the uncle. Luckily, when we went, the uncle was free, so we got to talk. I asked him what he recommended. The uncle said that he was good at Chinese tea, so he had to recommend Chinese tea. My friend also wanted to drink Chinese tea, so he asked the uncle to recommend it because I have almost zero experience in tasting tea. I only drink milk tea. I’m not good at Chinese tea. So the uncle asked what kind of tea I like. I told him that I like fragrant, not astringent, and light. The uncle picked 3-4 types of tea and let me smell them first to see which one I like. My friend and I chose Golden Oolong tea. When we found the tea we liked, The uncle will brew the tea for you in the first pot with explanations on how to boil it. There is also an hourglass for the next time we have to brew it ourselves. It was a real eye-opener. The tea that I got was exactly as I was referring to, fragrant, not astringent, light, and I could sip it continuously. Oh, it was so good. It was even better when eaten with mooncakes with various fillings. The uncle also recommended that after eating the mooncakes, hold it in your mouth for a bit and then sip the tea to get a different taste. It was fun, trying different kinds of mooncakes because the fillings were different. The taste was good and the price was not expensive at 20 baht each. The mochi was also very good at 30 baht each. It was chewy, soft, and fragrant. It was even more delicious when eaten with hot tea. As for me, I was on the matcha side, but I have to say that I might have missed out a bit because I ate the tea with the mooncakes first. Then the matcha latte just came. All the different textures were already overpowered. The last sip of matcha was exactly what I wanted. The matcha had a seaweed flavor that I don't often eat. I had it in Kyoto once and really liked it. When I came here, there were just as many matcha to choose from as there were Chinese teas. I could choose the one I wanted. Let the younger ones recommend. We got Musubi latte for 350 baht per cup, the most expensive matcha I've ever had in Thailand. When my mom asked, I didn't dare tell her the price. 😅 We thought about going back for matcha. We wanted to try something other than latte. It should be more enjoyable. We sat and sipped tea for over an hour with our friends. Time passed very quickly. The atmosphere was nice and the sound wasn't too loud. We drank 5-6 pots of Chinese tea. We drank until the water the uncle gave us ran out. The uncle brought us another pot of water, but we told him we couldn't take it anymore. We were so full. 🤣 The uncle was lovely, always smiling and in a good mood. This wasn't even before we tried the world-class tea set. My friends and I kept them to try next time, including Hanuman, Lakshmana, and Thotsakan, as well as the Silver Needle tea that we wanted to know the taste of from watching a Chinese series, or the Four Seasons Emerald Tea, which just the name made us want to try it. Or even the food and coffee that we haven't tried yet. This shop should be the one that we might go to often because there are so many more things to try. #BangkokTravel #BangkokCafeTakeBeautifulPhotos #Must-visit cafe
