Bus ride: about 7 minutes. 👇 First Section: Youyou Trail After getting off the bus, you need to hike a primitive trail in the forest (highly recommended if you can walk, as it has forests, small grasslands, streams, etc.). The entire trail is not paved with boardwalks, it is all gravel and dirt roads. The guide on the bus said the trail is 2.2 kilometers long (we actually walked 4.66 kilometers, taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. We were quite immersed in this section, running around taking photos, picking mushrooms, resting and eating, etc. If you just walk and take simple photos, it should be much faster). 👇 End of the first section of the Youyou Trail hike. There is a bus stop at the end, take the bus here to the second section. Bus ride: about 15 minutes. 👇 Second Section: Shudu Lake There are three ways to tour this section: walk the artificial boardwalk around the lake and forest for pure hiking / buy a separate ticket to take a boat / rent a mountain bike to ride (the end point should be the same, all at the bus stop). We chose hiking. The scenery is different from the first section, and it is also great for photos. You might encounter sociable little squirrels along the way. The guide on the bus said the trail is 3.3 kilometers long (we actually walked 4.04 kilometers, taking 1 hour and 20 minutes. We kept it simple in this section, just walking along and occasionally taking photos). 👇 End of the second section of the Shudu Lake hike. There is a bus stop at the end, take the bus here to the third section. Bus ride: about 40 minutes. 👇 Third Section: Bita Lake Currently, only a quarter of Bita Lake is open, and it is the easiest section of this tour. The previous routes are all one-way, not returning to the starting point. Bita Lake is a round-trip route, with a total of about 2 kilometers round trip (we only walked a few hundred meters, about half an hour). 👇 End of the third section of the Bita Lake tour. Pudacuo National Park is a vast nature reserve classified as a 5A tourist attraction in China. The park is located about 30 minutes drive from Shangri-La, China. The park includes two scenic areas, Shudu Lake in the north, and Bita Lake in the south of the park. The lakes are surrounded by mountainous woods, streams and grass lands. If you're lucky, you'll see some wild animals. As opposed to other parks I've been to in China, it seems that this park is completely natural. In order to preserve the nature around the lakes, walking is limited to a boardwalk along each lake. The boardwalk along Bita Lake is blocked midway for some reason. Pudacuo National Park is mainly comprised of Shudu Lake, Bita Lake and Militang Pasture. Militang Pasture (弥里塘草场) and Bita Lake (碧塔海) in Pudacuo National Park are closed for tourists due to maintanance from 3th September, 2017. The administrative office of Pudacuo National Park hasn't confirmed when they will be open exactly. Shudu Lake Scenic Area (属都湖) is still open for tourists. The shuttle bus will take you to the scenic area where you can take a stroll down the lake and enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountains, grasslands and of course, yaks.
