The East Coast Highway of Huadong belongs to Taiwan Provincial Highway No. 11. The whole journey is about 175 kilometers and it takes 3-4 hours to drive. The highway runs through the East Coast Scenic Area, with charming mountains and seas and tribal culture. It is a coastal highway that often makes tourists linger, whether it is chartered, self-driving, or cycling. On one side of the road are the rolling green mountains, and on the other side is the boundless blue Pacific Ocean. There are several rest stops along the road. You may wish to get off the bus and blow the sea breeze. Among them, the Basaki rest stop is located at 31.5 kilometers, which is a rare high point on the coastal road. When you climb up to the specially set observation deck, you can see Isozaki Bay and Turtle Roar. The cape and the Xinshe sea cliff are a peculiar coastal landscape with successive layers. There are several coin-operated telescopes on the observation deck for tourists to look at more clearly. The East Coast Scenic Area has also planted many shade trees around the Baqi Rest Station, and has a wide parking lot, clean toilets; serving hot and cold drinks, including light meals, lo-mei, various beverages and coffee; quaint Wooden tables and chairs, visitors can rest here and enjoy meals. There is also a small shop that displays artistic creations, small toys made of driftwood, and various handicrafts for souvenirs. In addition, the well-known scenic spots you will pass along the way include: Isozaki Beach, Shitiping, Xiuguluan Creek Outlet, Tropic of Cancer Sign, Baxian Cave, Stone Umbrella, Sanxiantai, Xiaoyeliu (Fumioka Fishing Port), Zhiben, etc. And you can go to the "Jilai Hunter School", the "Jingpu Tribe" at the mouth of Xiuguluan Creek, and the Nanzhuhu Tribe, "the hometown of white crabs", to experience more humanistic elements outside the mountains and seas.
