The China Meteorological Administration has released 16 national summer tourism routes for escaping the heat during the 2025 National Summer Cultural and Tourism Consumption Season. Let’s follow the "Fujian Mountain and Sea Charm: Porcelain and Tea Refreshment" route to experience the breathtaking landscapes of Fujian.
🌊 Zhouning, Ningde: Koi Fish Stream Scenic Area
Just a 5-kilometer drive from Zhouning County, you’ll arrive at the Koi Fish Stream in Puyuan Town. The village retains its natural, rustic, and tranquil charm, with lush trees and picturesque farmhouses. The stream meanders through the village, where thousands of koi fish "gather at the sound of human voices and the sight of human figures." In 2008, this stream, dating back to the Song Dynasty, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the "Oldest Koi Fish Stream" for its unique "fish cemetery, fish burial, and fish eulogy" traditions.
🌊 Xiapu, Ningde: Beqi Mudflats
Located along the eastern coast of Fujian, Xiapu County boasts the largest sea area, longest coastline, most extensive shallow mudflats, and the highest number of islands and reefs in the province. Renowned for its rich tourism resources and unique beach photography, it is hailed as China’s "Top Ten Scenic Photography Destinations" and "China’s Most Beautiful Mudflats." When the tide recedes, the vast mudflats resemble a giant mirror, reflecting the ever-changing sky and vibrant earth. Locals leisurely traverse the mudflats, their feet sinking into the fine silt as they work with simple tools.
🌊 Fuzhou: Guling Tourist Resort
Standing tall on the northern bank of the Min River in Fuzhou’s eastern suburbs, Guling is one of Fujian’s "Two Wonders" (alongside Qishan). About 8 kilometers from the city center, it rises 969 meters above sea level and spans 1,890 hectares—equivalent to roughly 2,647 football fields. The area is characterized by towering peaks, winding ridges, and ever-shifting clouds and mist. One moment, the majestic mountains are clearly visible; the next, they’re shrouded in rolling clouds, transforming the distant peaks into ethereal fairylands.
🌊 Dehua, Quanzhou: Tangzhai Mountain Forest Park
On the northwestern side of Dehua County lies Tangzhai Mountain Forest Park, covering 23,000 acres. The park blends ceramic culture with its natural beauty, featuring rolling mountains, emerald streams, and fresh air. It is divided into four scenic zones—Tangzhai Serenity, Chanxi Water Exploration, Xishan Cloud Trails, and Caixi Origins—with 37 major attractions. Highlights include "Tangzhai Red Leaves," "Famous Porcelain Exhibition," "Chanxi Lake Views," "Xishan Fairyland," and "Caixi Flowing Charm."
🌊 Tong’an, Xiamen: Seven-Color Pool
In the leisurely summer, the cicadas’ song beckons visitors to Junying Village in Tong’an, Xiamen, where the season is delightfully cool. The Seven-Color Pool, located near the village, dazzles with its mineral-rich blue waters, resembling a sapphire dropped by the gods. Depending on the weather and sunlight, the pool is said to refract seven colors, hence its name. The area also boasts about 6,500 acres of tea plantations, producing the renowned "Lianhua High Mountain Tea," a key export for Xiamen.
🌊 Zhangzhou: Fujian Tulou Nanjing Scenic Area
Tulou, a gem of Chinese residential architecture, stands out globally for its unique, almost mythical design. These structures, celebrated for their historical depth, distinctive style, grand scale, and intricate craftsmanship, are a proud symbol of China’s architectural heritage. The Fujian Tulou Nanjing Scenic Area in Zhangzhou is one of the finest examples of these ancient and mysterious buildings. They embody the rich culture and history of the Chinese nation, earning the description: "Houses within houses, towns within towers, and millennia of history within walls."
