Just returned from Xingyi, and I really don't recommend visiting in July-August! Here's my honest take.

Weather: Deceptively cool with hidden challenges Dubbed "Little Spring City" with an average annual temperature of 16°C, Xingyi sounds like a perfect summer escape, right? But July-August is rainy season 🌧️, making travel genuinely inconvenient. At Maling River Canyon, rain started right as I arrived—slippery boardwalks turned a leisurely stroll into a cautious "adventure." While the misty waterfalls created a unique atmosphere, the combination of rain and spray made photography nearly impossible. A real shame! That said, post-rain air is incredibly fresh, packed with negative oxygen ions—like breathing from an "air can." A small silver lining. Attractions: Limited activities and crowds Wanfeng Lake is a must-visit, but many water activities (like jet skis or scenic boat rides) are often suspended in July-August due to water level changes and safety concerns. Some attractions may even close temporarily—imagine the disappointment after a long trip! Wanfenglin and Maling River Canyon remain open but get crowded. At Wanfenglin, the sightseeing bus lines felt endless, and photo spots were packed. The canyon, usually serene, buzzed with noise, losing some of its natural tranquility. Food: Delicious but harder to enjoy Xingyi’s cuisine is outstanding—lamb noodles, chicken dumplings, gangzi noodles—each bite is heavenly. But during rains, many street food stalls operate unpredictably. I hunted for hours to find my coveted heziba (fried rice cakes), stomach growling the whole time. Still, the flavors make the effort worthwhile! Tips for your trip: 1. **Gear up**: Always carry rain gear (umbrella, poncho) and wear anti-slip shoes (sneakers ideal). 2. **Check updates**: Monitor attraction websites/social media for closures. If Wanfeng Lake is off-limits, spend more time cycling through Wanfenglin’s countryside. 3. **Avoid peaks**: Skip weekends/holidays to minimize crowds and queues. 4. **Ask locals**: Hotel staff or residents can point you to indoor or reliable food stalls. Despite these quirks, Xingyi’s karst landscapes, stunning scenery, and mouthwatering food remain unforgettable. With smart planning, your trip can still be amazing! 💕
