A Walk Through Time at Fatahillah Square

#jakatarguide Fatahillah Square in Jakarta is like stepping into a page of history. Located in the heart of Kota Tua (Old Town), the square is surrounded by charming colonial buildings that now house museums, cafés, and art corners. The vibe is relaxed and nostalgic kids riding colorful bikes, street performers entertaining crowds, and tourists snapping photos of the iconic Jakarta History Museum. It’s a great place to slow down, soak in the past, and feel the blend of Dutch influence and Indonesian culture. Whether you’re into heritage or just want a nice stroll, Fatahillah Square is a charming spot to visit.

Fatahillah Square, a symbol of Dutch colonial rule that lasted for over 350 years! There is Cafe Batavia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Cafe Batavia building was built in the 1930s. It was selected as one of the world's 100 best cafes by Newsweek magazine, and is well known as a must-visit course for foreign tourists. If you go up the wooden stairs to the second floor, you will see a wall filled with framed decorations that can be called the symbol of Cafe Batavia. On one side of the stairs, there are photos of famous people who visited the cafe, such as Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, and Queen Elizabeth of England. A cup of Indonesian coffee at a cafe that's over 100 years old! Don't miss it.
