Wheat and barley fields at the Samoeng Rice Research Center

#NewYearNewTrip The Samoeng Rice Research Center is located in Samoeng Tai Subdistrict, Samoeng District, Chiang Mai Province. It was established on September 1, 1978, in accordance with the royal wish of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, to benefit Thai people living and working in agriculture on the highlands and various hill tribes. Interesting things in the center include: - Barley and wheat fields: From mid-February to mid-March of each year, the rice fields turn golden, perfect for taking pictures and enjoying the view, especially in the afternoon to evening when sunlight hits the rice plants. - Education and research: The center conducts research and development of rice varieties, production technology, and harvest protection. It also provides academic services on wheat and barley to farmers and interested persons. - Activities and festivals: The center organizes technology transfer events, such as "Lanna Wheat Poi" to disseminate knowledge and demonstrate the processing of products from temperate grains. There are two main routes to get to the Samoeng Rice Research Center from Chiang Mai city: 1. Mae Rim District Route: Starting from Chiang Mai city, take Highway No. 107 towards Mae Rim District. Then turn onto Highway No. 1096 heading to Samoeng District. This route is popular because it is convenient and takes less time. However, be careful while driving because the road is winding along the mountains. 2. Route through Hang Dong District: Start from Chiang Mai city, take Highway No. 108 heading to Hang Dong District, then turn onto Highway No. 1269 heading to Samoeng District. This route is approximately 40 kilometers long and takes about 1 hour. When entering Samoeng District, look for the sign "Samoeng Rice Research Center" which is located on the right hand side just before reaching the district. For those who do not have a private car, you can use a public bus from the bus stop at Waroros Market (Kad Luang) by asking for directions to Samoeng Tai District. When the car arrives at the entrance to Samoeng District (at the Pom intersection), look on the right hand side and you will see the sign for Samoeng Rice Research Center clearly on the left hand side and Nittaya Farm (Lychee Farm). You can tell the driver to park the car at that point. Advice: Be careful while driving because the road is winding and mountainous.
