Chasing Waterfalls in East Java

Surabaya (Eastern Java) in Indonesia captivated our nature seeking hearts. Went on a holiday during May 2025 Labor Day to visit Madakaripura Waterfalls at 200m high and Tumpuk Sewu at the base of Sumeru volcano. We went on two separate tours for these two falls as it’ll be physically challenging to hike both in the same day. Madakaripura has lesser crowds in the morning, has clearer waters and got the chance to swim and shower on the many smaller falls on bottom of the mountain. While the hike for Tumpuk Sewu is a bit challenging for first timers like me due to steep risers going to and fro the riverbed on the bottom, but it’s all worth it.
