Conciergerie: A Glimpse into French History

A precious architectural relic that recalls the glory of the first French royal family, which was used as a prison during the French Revolution✨ Originally built as a palace, it was repurposed as a prison after King Charles V left the royal residence in the late 14th century. During the French Revolution, it housed individuals deemed enemies of the revolution, including Marie Antoinette, earning it the grim nickname "The Prison of Death"💦. During the Reign of Terror that followed the revolution, approximately 2,700 prisoners were transported from the Conciergerie by cart to the guillotine at what is now Place de la Concorde😱.
