Zhejiang Tourism | A Historical Witness of Sino-Japanese Cultural Exchange - Ningbo Tiantong Temple

Tiantong Temple, located at the foot of Taibai Mountain, 25 kilometers east of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, was founded in the first year of Yongkang in the Western Jin Dynasty (300 AD), one of the five famous mountains of Buddhism Zen, known as the 'Buddhist Kingdom of the Southeast'. 🙏 In the Yongkang year of the Western Jin Dynasty (300 AD), the monk Yixing traveled to the county of Yangzhou (now Yinzhou) and loved the mountains and rivers, so he settled here for cultivation. It is said that there were no people near Donggu at that time, but a child came to deliver firewood every day. Soon after the monastery was built, the child said to Master Yixing: I am Taibai Venus, because the master is devoted to Taoism, moved the Jade Emperor, and ordered me to transform into a child to protect you. Now that the great work is completed, I am here to say goodbye. After speaking, the child disappeared. Hence the name Taibai Mountain and Tiantong Temple. The existing buildings were mostly rebuilt during the Chongzhen period of the late Ming Dynasty and renovated during the Qing Dynasty. About 400 meters east of the temple, there is the 'Ancient Tiantong Site', which is the original site of the temple, with a Song Dynasty stele. The Thousand Buddha Pagoda between the two is a newly built antique building in recent years.
