Yongding Tulou

Construction period: Construction began in the first year of the Republic of China (1912) and took about 5 years to complete. It was funded by the 21st generation of the Hongkeng Lin family, the brothers Lin Hongchao and others.  • Status and honors: It was listed as a local cultural relic unit in 1988, a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Fujian in 1991, and a national key cultural relic in 2001. It was included in the World Cultural Heritage "Fujian Tulou" list in 2008.  ⸻ 🧱 Architectural features and spatial layout • Bagua structure: The building is divided into the form of Bagua diagram, each hexagram has six rooms, a total of 4 floors, 48 rooms on each floor, and an overall diameter of about 57.2 meters.  • Combination of Chinese and Western: The outer ring adopts the traditional Hakka civil structure, which has both defense and ventilation functions; the inner ring is two-story, imitating the Western design, and the central hall has Roman stone columns, sloping roofs, and gorgeously decorated flower walls and couplets.  • Decoration and cultural symbols: The door lintels and stone pillars inside the building are often inscribed with couplets to encourage descendants, such as "Do state affairs, read the books of sages", "There is no time to rest when you work hard...", etc., showing the owner's ideal of respecting culture and promoting education.
