A Legendary Tiny Island with a Church in Corfu

Mouse Island, known locally as Pontikonisi, is a small island near Corfu’s Airport. Its name comes from its tiny size and shape when seen from above. This little island is a famous sight in Corfu and often appears in pictures and postcards of the area. A key feature of Mouse Island is the Byzantine chapel of Pantokrator. This church dates back to the 11th or 12th century, adding a sense of history to the island. While the island itself is small, it is rich in greenery, making it a peaceful spot. Legend says that Mouse Island is the petrified ship of Odysseus, turned to stone by the god Poseidon.
