Stop by Pak Tai Temple in Wan Chai, a relaxing place in Hong Kong!

Today I had the opportunity to visit Pak Tai Temple, or Yuk Hui Kung (玉虛宮) in Chinese. It was built by the Wan Chai community in 1863 during the Qing Dynasty and was declared one of Hong Kong's Eight Monuments in 2019. In the main hall is a 3-meter-high bronze statue of the god Pak Tai, cast in 1603 during the Ming Dynasty. It is considered to be 400 years old, and there are many ancient Chinese bronze bells and lanterns cast in 1863, with colorful lotus lanterns hanging beautifully inside. 🚶 Travel & Visiting Time Coordinates: 2 Lung On Street, Wan Chai, near Stone Nullah Lane Garden and Blue House Cluster Open daily from 8:00–17:00 Getting there: MTR Wan Chai Station (Exit A3) and walk for about 8 minutes, or take the tram or bus lines 6, 10, 66 and get off at Wan Chai Market, then walk a little bit more. 🌿 Atmosphere & Architecture The temple is located under a large banyan tree in a side street in the business district, giving a sense of peace that contrasts with the surrounding tall buildings. It is like walking into an ancient site in the middle of the city. The structure is a two-hall-three-bay in the Qing Dynasty style, with a dragon-carved roof and a mosaic depicting Cantonese Opera in the eaves. Inside, there are many deities such as Lung Mo (Mother of Dragons), God of Wealth, Choi Sun, Tai Sui, Jai Kung, and four soldiers of Pak Tai, which are carved in detail on the front pedestal. ✨ Highlights to note Colorful lotus lanterns hung in rows, creating a warm atmosphere and being different from general Chinese temples that use rotating incense sticks. A 3-meter-high Pak Tai statue (1603), which is considered the oldest in Hong Kong, and the carvings behind it are very durable and detailed. An antique copper bell from 1863 that still remains in the original model, and beautifully carved wooden walls. The adjacent buildings used to be community centers or schools in the past, helping to indicate the social role of the temple in the community since the beginning of Wan Chai's development. 📝 Impressions after visiting Pak Tai Temple is an oasis of peace for us in the inner city of Hong Kong. It is suitable for standing and thinking or relaxing, escaping the hustle and bustle of Queen's Road East. The interior is surrounded by exquisite Chinese art and beautiful worship lanterns. If you are walking along the Wan Chai Heritage Trail, don't miss stopping here because it is both a source of faith And architecture that combines both artistic value and community in one place #Get a discount without relying on luck
