Travel Guide to Meili Snow Mountain in Diqing, Yunnan

Transportation: Bus Tickets: Purchase tickets from "Diqing Transport" Outbound: Shangri-La to Feilai Temple, 64 RMB + 5 RMB (insurance), approximately 4 hours Return: Board at Feilai Temple (Meili Snow Mountain Viewing Platform), the same spot where you can see the Golden Sunrise on the mountain. The drop-off point is the same as the boarding point. Accommodation: It is recommended to stay at hotels near the Feilai Temple Viewing Platform. Some hotels have viewing platforms where you can directly see Meili Snow Mountain, making it convenient to watch the sunset. My Itinerary: DAY 1: Take the bus from Shangri-La Bus Station to Deqin Feilai Temple (Meili Snow Mountain) at 10:30 AM, approximately 4 hours. DAY 2: At 6:30 AM, head to the Feilai Temple Meili Snow Mountain Viewing Platform to wait for the Golden Sunrise. At 8:00 AM, return to the hotel to collect luggage and take the bus to Mangkang (if not entering Tibet, you can return to Shangri-La or Lijiang). Golden Sunrise: When I visited, the sunrise was around 6:30 AM. In winter, it may be later. Check the weather forecast for the sunrise time beforehand and arrive half an hour early to secure a good spot. Many photography enthusiasts set up their tripods. Although I didn’t see the Golden Sunrise, I was lucky enough to see the full view of Meili Snow Mountain during the rainy season, which made me very content. I carried this luck with me to Lhasa! Altitude: The Feilai Temple Viewing Platform is approximately 3,400 meters above sea level. It is recommended to bring oxygen bottles for use if needed. Tips: 1. Acclimate to the altitude in Shangri-La beforehand and rest well before heading to Meili. 2. Choose a seat on the left side of the bus for the outbound trip to enjoy stunning views of Baima Snow Mountain. 3. The temperature difference between day and night is significant, so prepare a windbreaker, bring a hat, and use sunscreen. 4. Drink plenty of water during the trip to stay hydrated. 5. Avoid strenuous activities and ensure adequate sleep to prevent headaches. 6. There is only one bus from Feilai Temple to Lijiang at 9:00 AM, so plan accordingly. Similarly, the bus to Mangkang departs at 9:50 AM daily and will stop at Feilai Temple to pick up passengers.
