The former site of Baigongguan Prison is located at the gate of Baigongguan on Gele Mountain in Shapingba District, Chongqing. Baiju claimed to be a descendant of Bai Juyi, so he borrowed Bai Juyi's nickname "Xiangshan Jushi" and named his villa "Xiangshan Villa". In 1939, when Dai Li was selecting a site at the foot of Gele Mountain, he took a fancy to it, bought it with a large sum of money, and transformed it into a prison to persecute revolutionaries. Together with Zhazidong, it is called "two living coffins". But there were some differences between them. Those detained in Baigonguan were political prisoners whose crimes were considered "serious" by the Military Control Commission. Since 1938, it has been used as a secret prison by the Kuomintang secret service. Anti-Japanese patriotic general Huang Xiansheng, Tongji University President Zhou Junshi, patriot Liao Chengzhi, Communist Party member Song Qiyun, Xu Linxia and his wife and their young son "Little Radish Head" were all imprisoned here.
