Como was a surprise stop from the beginning to the end. It wasn’t planned and it was totally worth it to spend some time there. We went for two days and it was just the right time to want to come back and enjoy its landscapes, restaurants, shops. We discovered some little alleys with beautiful small business owners. If you are thinking about spending some time in Como, I recommend you to take time to get lost in it, look at Como lake from all sides and sit down in the square enjoying the music from a street musician at the evening. I did this trip with my partner and we found it very romantic spot, even if she got the craving of McBreakfast and we had to stop there too! So yes! Who knew a bus strike and no available taxis would leave us stranded in Varenna until 5 AM the next morning, waiting for the first bus back? I've since seen on Xiaohongshu that this is a common issue, so for anyone planning a trip: DO NOT book the last bus for your return journey! Despite the travel mishap, Lake Como's beauty truly lived up to its reputation. Here's how our day went: Transportation 🚆🚌 Currently, direct trains are under maintenance, so from Milan Central Station, you'll take a train to Lecco, then transfer to a bus that takes you directly to Varenna. We bought our tickets online as a package (no need to buy separate train and bus tickets), and the journey took about 1.5 to 2 hours. Exploring Varenna 🏞️ Lake Como has several charming towns, but after some research, Varenna and Bellagio seemed to be the most recommended. We had planned to take a ferry to Bellagio, but the queue was incredibly long, and it was scorching hot, so we decided against it. We ended up staying in Varenna, and honestly, it was absolutely stunning on its own. | A destination worth revisiting. 🌟Lake Como was recommended by a foreign colleague. Starting from Germany, passing through Lake Como in Italy, and then heading to Nice in France, the entire journey was filled with the romantic vibes of the Mediterranean. I later visited twice more and fell in love with this stunning lake in Varenna. 🌟Lake Como is nestled in a basin at the southern foot of the Alps in northern Italy, about 50 kilometers northeast of Milan. Shaped like a "Y," it is a long, narrow lake surrounded and divided by several mountains. Under the jurisdiction of the Lombardy region, it is the third-largest lake in Italy. 🌟We chose to stay in Varenna among the towns of Como, Bellagio, and Varenna. Next time, we plan to stay in the other two towns for a couple of days. 🌟The most famous attraction in Varenna is the Chiesa di San Giorgio (St. George's Church), located on the high ground of the town. Built in the 14th century, this Gothic church is well worth a visit. Inside, you'll find exquisite frescoes and stone carvings, along with a panoramic view of Lake Como.

#summervacay I kept seeing Lake Como pop up on my feed, and since my itinerary had me in Milan anyway, I thought I'd pop over. After realizing each little town had its own unique charm, I decided to slow down and stay a night. Best decision ever! Varenna: The Convenient Gateway Varenna is super convenient, with frequent trains from Milan, making it the easiest entry point to the Lake Como area. Naturally, it's quite popular with tourists, and yes, the ferry queue at the pier was definitely long. The lakeside is dotted with stunning villas, many of them belonging to famous adventurers of the past. I didn't get to see the famous wisteria-covered gate that's so popular with influencers, as it wasn't the right season. However, I opted to visit Villa Monastero (which cost €12), and it was lovely! Full of tropical plants, it felt like a delightful lakeside excursion. Bellagio: My Evening Retreat I chose Bellagio for my overnight stay, arriving by ferry in the afternoon to avoid the peak crowds. I found a lakeside restaurant and just quietly watched the intense summer sun soften into a gentle glow. As evening set in, this usually bustling, commercial town grew wonderfully quiet, with only people leisurely sipping drinks outdoors.
