We stayed for two nights in a “luxury “ room. Maintenance of these types of hotel must be a non stop nightmare. Age and the sea side elements are against them I’m afraid, there was ongoing external painting going on during our stay. Given that, you can perhaps forgive the peeling paint and the cracks in the ceilings because you know it’s ongoing work but I would expect less of it . This forgiveness doesn’t hold true for chipped crockery at breakfast, sad room furniture rusty, towel rails or torn window blinds in the room. Fixing these things are the basics for a good hotel. A little extra cleaning wouldn’t go amiss either, I found a tube of muscle pain cream in the table drawer which had been there a while. Sadly the restaurant is closed indefinitely for lunches and dinner but the breakfasts were available. We had the continental which is included in the room rate and it was OK if a little “thin”. The bar was Closed whilst we were there but it did look austere. The room was comfortable if tired and you certainly can’t complain about the views. Good shower and a comfortable bed but if you use the TV be prepared for a significant challenge trying to turn it off… (I ended up pulling the mains plug out) 😀 Staff were brilliant, friendly and responsive both before and during our stay so thankyou! Question is would I go back? Probably not

We stayed two nights here and were warmly received by the owner Barbara. Keys to the room and house are provided if you want to go out and return after 9pm. The rooms were surprisingly large with a plentiful supply of water , very comfortable bed , TV and a lounge area and the bathrooms were impeccable. Breakfast was freshly prepared and we chose continental which offered a range of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit and pastries and toast , tea and coffee and Cooked breakfast was an optional extra. Well situated for a short walk to a number of excellent restaurants and sea front.

From the moment we arrived and were warmly welcomed by Barbara we knew we had made a great choice. On seeing our bedroom(room 1 with sea facing terrace) we were bowled over. Large room with lovely bed, sofa with a view and well equipped bathroom. The included breakfast was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. Great experience and tremendous value. Wonderful position with great restaurants within walking distance.

We very rarely leave reviews but because our stay at The Hambrough was so good it deserves one. We had Rooms 1&2 with the balconies overlooking the harbour. One word for the hotel and staff which is excellent - location, service, breakfast, well stocked bar, cleanliness with good sized rooms. Numerous quality restaurants are nearby we recommend The Bistro & Basque Kitchen. The hotel also has a good deal with Red Funnel ferry for your car. No where would be better to stay when on the Island than The Hambrough.

Popped into the Hambrough following a fabulous organized walking festival walk around Ventnor & Boniface for a cup of tea. We enjoyed a relaxing half hour in the bar, beautiful atmosphere and fabulous view; nothing was too much trouble and the tea was devine! Thank you

Good location, parallel to the esplanade and looking over the sea. Had 1 of 2 large comfortable rooms, with a balcony with sea view. Bathroom a bit cold. All spacious. Continental breakfast choices were included in rate ie drinks toast/pastries and granola/muesli and fruit. Watch your teeth on the homemade granola. You can pay for hot choices. Friendly service. Parking on road out front or through narrow turns at side of hotel.

The Hamborough Hoted our Afternoon Tea style Wedding reception. From first contact through to our departure the next day, the welcoming friendly and professional team made it a very Special occasion. Our bespoke Mocktails, Canapés and Afternoon Tea were delicious and beautiful presented. The views from our room out over the harbour made it hard to leave! Nothing was too much trouble for the Hamborough Team and they created a very magical day for us. X

A lovely welcoming hotel with amazing sea views. Lots of great personal touches made it a home from home. We really enjoyed the continental breakfast option which was generous and filling. All the staff were great and super helpful. Room 4 was immaculate and a great size with a seating area overlooking the harbour. The sound of the waves as you fell asleep and a comfy bed made it a good nights sleep. Would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

Stayed here four years ago, and returned solo for three nights in July, this time without the car. Found the journey from Portsmouth Harbour (national rail station) and foot ferry, and onwards to Ventnor, very straightforward and efficient. Buses to various points of interest on the island are frequent and run exactly to time. Firstly, a big shout-out to the hotel staff, who are all unfailingly welcoming, friendly, professional and helpful - no request was too small or too complicated! Sadly they are not offering restaurant service this season, only breakfasts and a small bar food menu, but their standards of high-quality ingredients (many home-made items), imaginative presentation and generous hospitality remain. Dropped a star only because the hotel itself could do with a refresh - and yes, a few niggles with sash windows and tricky blinds - but there are still plenty of 5* aspects: the staff (as above); comfortable and well-furnished bedrooms with stunning views; exemplary standards of housekeeping and daily cleaning. The hotel is in a very good position - full sea views, without the noise of the actual seafront - an easy walk downhill. There are some excellent eateries and interesting shops within a couple of minutes' walk. I left feeling very well looked-after and longing to return. Many thanks to all concerned.
