City Express by Marriott Tijuana Río

Pros: Morning breakfast (though it’s pretty much same food every day with little tweaks on the hot food section but it’s good enough) Daily housekeeping Cons: Rain shower head only, no handheld shower (for people with coarse hair you need to keep manoeuvring yourself to the water source, water is not weak but not super strong also) No bidet No toothbrush No hotel slippers Note: Room does not come with a refrigerator. You can request for it, like I did and was given one. Had medication that required refrigeration. We are a group of 2 pax. The standard they provide is 2 bath towel, 1 hand towel and 1 floor towel. I had requested for 2 hand towel (since 2pax) but had to request for it every day. As their standard is what I mentioned as above. So after a few days, it got tiring and I gave up asking. Same goes for the complimentary water bottle. Standard is 1 every day even though 2pax. You can buy it from their vending machine downstairs but the stocks available are usually not a lot. Room does not come with thermal flask or coffee machine. However, there is a coffee machine available and also water dispenser (hot, room temperature and cold water) available at the lobby. On numerous occasions, I noticed the water dispenser to be out of water during evening time (6-7pm). Thankfully they have a gym just right beside that has the same water dispenser machine (you need to insert your room card to access the gym). Gym closes at 10pm. If you’re using the iron (placed in the washroom), please test it before using. The one I was given, the water from the iron kept leaking. Feedback and was given another iron which worked fine. Light housekeeping only. Washroom will be mopped dry. Toiletries, 2 bath towel, 1 floor towel and 1 face towel will be replaced/topped up. Note, make sure you make it obvious that you don’t want to reuse your existing towels (I learnt to leave them on the table). A few times I noticed my hanging towel is not changed. This hotel is centered on sustainability. You ask for an extra tissue box or toilet roll it’s a no. They told me, they will top up only when I have finished them. To risk running out of them in the middle of the night, I bought additional toilet rolls/kitchen towel from the supermarket. I think they only vacuum the room when the guest check out (correct me if I am wrong). There was a patch of small white stones in my room and it was there for about 2 weeks before they’re gone. Housekeeping will knock on the door when they’re about to come to your rooms to do a clean up (usually around 9am onwards). There was a few times either I missed hearing the knock or they knocked when we weren’t in the room. Hence, my room was not cleaned. Therefore, do make sure to make your presence known if you want your rooms cleaned. I stayed for 27 nights here. Overall, the hotel is in a good location and is priced competitively in comparison to its neighbouring hotels. It met my basic needs and their front desk/housekeeping staffs are helpful. Thank you very much for rendering help and being patient especially since I don’t speak Spanish.

Well, knowing that this hotel belongs to the Marriott family, it is surprisingly basic. Of course clean but with little care in the interior, the lights the way the customer is received, in general, small things make life better, and here at this Marriott could have been improved very easily. In Tijuana people travel by Uber or taxis from the hotel for many reasons, especially because of poor public transportation, thus, customers wait in the hotel lobby for their taxis, and many customers can coincide at the same time, and there is only a sofa and two armchairs (3 squeezed and 2 like Winston Churchill in single seats) and nowhere else to rest yourself or your bags. This is making the experience a bit off a sort of train station-ish platform. The breakfast is acceptable, providing all you need, but the the dinning area is very dark, badly lighted, to be honest you can’t hardly guess the time at all. The furniture there is very cheap, and doesn’t make you feel I want to read tye newspaper while having breakfast but I just want to finish and leave this 7/11 store. I am sure that I might sound a bit picky, but I am not, it is very easy to make small changes, non expensive that can improve the whole experience greatly. It is a Not a cheap place to stay, let’s remember this.
