Mercure Olbia

I chose the Mercure Hotel Olbia because my flight arrived around 1:00 a.m. and I specifically needed a hotel with 24-hour check-in. When I booked, I left a note explaining that I would arrive at approximately 1:30 a.m. On arrival, the night manager repeatedly disappeared to check on my room before eventually admitting that there wasn't a single room ready for me. I explained that I didn't care what type of room it was—I had been travelling all day and just wanted somewhere to sleep. While I was waiting, another guest arrived and was checked in before me. The night manager then called other hotels in Olbia, but everywhere was fully booked. By around 3:00 a.m. he ended up preparing a room himself with fresh sheets and towels. I finally got to bed around 4:00 a.m. The room was understandably not properly cleaned, and I had to remind reception the next morning to have housekeeping finish the job. Even then, the floor remained dirty and an already opened bottle of water was left in the room. When I asked for another bottle the following afternoon, I was curtly told that water is only complimentary on the first day—even though the first bottle had already been opened by the previous guest. I don't blame the night manager, who did everything he could to resolve a problem caused by poor preparation. What disappointed me most was the hotel's response afterwards. They didn't make any attempt to reach out to me, let alone apologize. When I went and spoke to the manager at the front desk about what happened, it was the first she had heard of it. I brought up the possibility of some kind of compensation and the best they could offer was a complimentary drink. I felt was no genuine apology or acknowledgement of how unacceptable the situation had been. I was surprised by this level of disorganisation from a well-known hotel brand. During the rest of my trip around Sardinia, I received much more professional and welcoming service from small, family-run hotels.

I had a pleasant stay. The location is convenient and the hotel is clean, which I truly appreciated. That being said, I was hoping for a slightly warmer atmosphere. While the staff were polite and professional, I did find them a bit reserved at times. A little more warmth, smiles, and energy would have gone a long way in making the experience feel more welcoming. Unfortunately, I didn’t have access to the Wi-Fi during my stay, which was inconvenient. Also, the soundproofing in the hotel could be improved — I could clearly hear noise from other guests, including people speaking loudly in the hallways.

Good standard hotel with spacious if somewhat dated but clean rooms and a nice pool with bar. Great location if you want to be close to Olbia Terranova train station as it’s next door. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the old town. Rooms do not have soundproofing so not ideal for light sleepers. I arrived at 12:30 and was told the room would be ready between 2and 3p. As check-in officially starts at 2pm I sat down and waited patiently only to see some other guests get a room straight away. At 2:15pm a Dutch guest kicked up a fuss when he was told his room wasn’t ready and he too was then given a room. At this point I protested (having waited for 1hr30) and then also got a room. Whilst the reception staff were friendly this was not a great check-in experience.

A short walk from the Santa Gallura ARST drop off in the centre of Olbia to the Hotel. It is modern, spotlessly clean, comfortable with a lovely pool area and a spa. It was close to the rail station to catch the train to Cagliari. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and one excellent English especially a young lady named Sofia. We enjoyed an excellent buffet breakfast in a vast unusual dining room auditorium. Tea/coffee making facilities would have made our stay perfect. Highly recommended Would love to share photos but don't know how to send from phone to tablet. Lesley

The room was clean and comfortable, but the photos online didn’t fully match the actual space, which was a bit disappointing. However, the spa experience was wonderful, offering a relaxing atmosphere and excellent treatments, despite two showers being out of order. Overall, a decent stay with some room for improvement.
