One Holyrood Hotel & Cafe

The room is very small, only 1 chair, a very small TV and not even space for 2 people to sit together. The housekeeper came to our room every day even we stayed for 2 nights and we didn't ask to clean our room, we only found out after we came back at night which is shocking to us. However they didn't change the bedsheets, only cleaned the bathroom but didn't change the towels or refill the shampoo so I didn't understand the point of coming in our room before we check out. We also asked to have late check out but the housekeeper still came to our room at 10am on the day so it showed they didn't have proper communication. As for the breakfast, there're limited choices and you can only choose the coffee you want. It's pricey for what we paid for. The room & the hotel are very old, over 400 years so not enough lights. It's also noisy especially in the morning, you can hear the cars passing by.

It was an amazing 2-night stay! Will definitely coming back. A big thank you to all the staff and host of the hotel. God bless!

Stayed 4 nights. Good location just off town centre. Hotel is lovely, clean and quiet, staff were excellent great breakfast which we had in lovely garden sitting area, an oasis from a different era! 10 mins walk to bus station so we used a lot of public transport. Be aware has no car park but you can buy a tourist parking pass via paybyphone app and patk in council car park directly behind the hotel (check with staff how it works). Our room was garden facing so very little traffic noise. The cafe is only open until 3pm so you have the place to yourself after then. Centrally located, beautifully decorated, and a warmth of service not usually found these days. Come to One Holyrood to enjoy a ‘home from home’ experience where friendship and family combine to give great service and delicious food. I booked what looked like a good room at One Holyrood Hotel as I was due to be working on the island for a few days. It was booked some months in advance. After booking we took on a young dog so I checked with the hotel whether their dog freindly advertising applied to our room. I was told it wasn't and we'd been moved to another room (no mentioin of which other room). There was also a slightly snarky 'I trust it is suitably house trained'. (Anyone using it may be grammatically correct but isn't dog friendly imho). As my other half would be working from the hotel and looking after the dog, there would be a short time each day when a desk and wifi would be necessary. Surely though not a problem. I sent an email to confirm - could I just check that the room you have reallocated us to has a desk (or there is somewhere suitable to do some work) and wifi is available .... reply came there none. A chaser a couple of weeks later ... no reply A further chaser a month later ... ghosted (no reply). If that's the hospitality on offer then we could (and did) do better. Their cancellation process is fairly straight forward which was the highlight of our experience with the charms of One Holyrood hotel. - Avoid unless rudeness is your thing.

Excellent hotel in Newport! The whole staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The food was excellent. The garden was a beautiful retreat for breakfast or after a day out. The rooms were all unique and tastefully decorated. Thanks for a great two-night stay!

​We recently stayed at One Holyrood and cannot recommend it highly enough—we will definitely be staying here again! ​From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the entire hotel has been designed really thoughtfully. Our room was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable, ensuring a wonderful night's sleep. Despite being in a fantastic central location within easy walking distance of lots of brilliant local restaurants, it was blissfully quiet at night. ​The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and every single member of staff we encountered was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. ​A special mention must go to the garden, which is an absolute highlight of the property—such a beautiful, peaceful space. If you are looking for a flawless, stylish, and welcoming place to stay, this is it!

Entertaining stay! The hotel itself is really nice, it's very clean and tidy throughout, which is so important to me personally. My room was roomy and had all that I required for a one night stay, even longer would have been fine also. the bathroom while a mixture of modern and old fashioned, again was fine for my stay, it had a lovely walking show fitted with a rain head, which was all very nice, toilet & sink though were a horrid pink, bit functional, although the cold tap had to be turned in the wrong directionion to make it work, which is like to see replaced with a new set, so they worked as expected. Breakfast was excellent, the quality of the produce used was excellent and this alone would make me return for another stopover, which I shall. My only criticism is that the fire alarm went off just after midnight, which turned into a right nightmare, as there was noone on site form the hotel itself, so 4 of us were left to try and resolve the problem, which resulted in the fire brigade having to attend and reassure us that we could rest easy for the rest of the night, what a bloody pain that was in the early hours.

Great room wonderful big bed. After a horrendous start to holiday found this gem. Lovely character hotel friendly helpful. If your bed is the most important thing this is the place for you. Would highly recommend room 9. Big super king.
