The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit

The gym is in a section of the hotel that also houses the pool. It’s a spacious room, plenty of cardio equipment, including some variety (treadmill, rower, bikes, elliptical). Core LifeFitness machines are present - lat pulldown, chest press, leg curl, shoulder press, etc. Cable machine. Well-stocked dumbbell rack up to 50 lbs. Kettlebells, balance balls, medicine bells. No free weights or racks.

We booked this stay last minute as a replacement for a cancelled spring break trip to Chicago, where we had planned to stay at the Langham. We were hoping for something special to soften the blow for our kids. Unfortunately, this stay fell short — and at over $700 for the room, the issues we encountered were hard to overlook. To be absolutely clear: roughly 98% of the staff we interacted with were genuinely warm and did their best and truly great to work with. I truly believe what went wrong here is an organizational and management problem, not a staff problem. The people were great — the systems failed them and us. Arrival & Room Condition We arrived around 3:20 PM and the room wasn’t ready until 4:35, which was understandable as check-in was not until 4:00. Outside our room in the hallway sat a broken-down refrigerator — not a great first impression for a Westin property. Inside, the in-room refrigerator didn’t work either. Which we didn't even notice until we tried to put leftover dinner in to save and realized it was not working and not cooling at all. Since it was a suite, there was a second built-in fridge space, however it was simply empty. Multiple pieces of furniture had very large visible stains, including the couch where the pullout was, and the armchair. The Rollout Bed That Never Came When checking in we requested a rollout bed — and confirmed it again when the room was ready. We were told both times it was no problem. It was never delivered. A Bedding Ordeal Until Nearly 11 PM There was zero bedding for the pullout sofa. Before dinner we called asking for bedding for the pullout, and they were great and came up and made the pullout sofa, however it only came with a very light blanket, and our kids were cold and needed something a bit heavier. We called around 9:30PM requesting a comforter and two additional pillows — nothing arrived. We waited until 10:48 PM and called again. The woman who answered was noticeably annoyed from the start, pointed out she had “just started at 10,” and informed us they didn’t have comforters — only blankets. For a room advertised as sleeping four guests, the fact that basic bedding wasn’t readily available is not acceptable, but then to argue with me about a comforter that is on all beds throughout the hotel was odd. After I mentioned it was for our kids, she agreed to send bedding up. We finally received a gray blanket, a comforter, and two pillows at 11:08 PM. Pool Towels ran out at the pool and were never restocked during the entire hour we were there. Valet The valet staff were great, they were friendly, quick and the whole experience was very easy to navigate. Even our son (7) told the valet team member that he was nice :) This is a historic, beautiful hotel and we so badly wanted to love it. We don’t leave reviews like this lightly — but at this price point, at a Westin, the basics are non-negotiable. Someone in management needs to take a hard look at how this property is being run. The hotel was extremely busy with multiple weddings and a concert in town at Ford Field. The front desk was not apologetic about our room not being ready, we were unable to use hotel amenities (the pool) while we waited for our room. Upon check-out the desk was busy and I gave some cash to go against my balance. When reviewing my CC statement the next month, I noticed the full amount was charged. I went through accounting and for 3 months “looked into this” while I kept calling every few weeks to see when this would be resolved. I was just told now that nothing was seen from security and I’m just out the cash. This is terrible business practice and I will NEVER stay here again …. Nothing offered to me for my time and continued calls to check and see how this was being resolved. I wasn’t even offered points for my troubles. The front desk are uninterested in their patrons and will steal from you given the opportunity. Beware.

I stayed here recently on a business trip and had a very good overall experience. We arrived around check-in time, and while a few rooms for our group were not quite ready, the delay was minimal. The hotel offered a comfortable lounge area near the front desk, which made it easy to relax while waiting. The room was spacious, quiet, and well-appointed. The bed was comfortable, the shower had adequate water pressure, and the towels were of good quality. There was a minifridge in the room as well. I also appreciated the convenience of having both a Starbucks and a restaurant located in the lobby. Although we did not spend much time sightseeing, the hotel's location allowed us to easily walk to a Detroit Tigers game, which was a nice bonus. Overall, this was a comfortable and convenient stay. The minor check-in delay was quickly resolved, and I would happily stay here again on a future visit.

DO NOT use the Book Cadillac for your event. We reserved a block of rooms for our daughter’s wedding party. We wanted thirty rooms, but the Book Cadillac event planner suggested reserving only twenty based on our guest list size; we were told we could easily add more rooms later. Shortly after, when our guest list expanded, we asked for more rooms, but we were told we couldn’t add any more, as there was another event in town that weekend. As we needed a larger block, we were forced to find another hotel. The Book Cadillac then refused to refund our deposit, saying we should have read the fine print in the contract more carefully. We contracted with them in good faith, and trusted their event planning staff to help us with the details of this complex plan, but we feel they have completely taken advantage of us. Calls to Marriott Corporate were completely unhelpful.

I wanted to bring a serious concern to your attention. I was informed that the Executive Chef was chewing tobacco and spitting in Kitchen trash while overseeing food preparation for weddings and corporate events. If this information is accurate, it raises significant concerns about food safety, sanitation, and the level of professionalism expected in a hospitality environment. Given the standards guests expect when attending events at the hotel, I hope this matter is taken seriously and reviewed appropriately. My intention is not to make accusations but to ensure that proper food handling practices are consistently maintained.

This was our first visit to Detroit, and the location of the hotel was conveniently located across the street from where the DAX airport shuttle stops and within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see in downtown Detroit. We arrived around 4:30pm and found a fairly long line at check-in, but the four ladies working the front desk kept things moving efficiently and got everyone checked in quickly. As part of the check-in process, we were given the option to forgo housekeeping in exchange for a $20 credit that could be used at the hotel's restaurants or bar, which we took advantage of Our room was on the 21st floor but it had only a single small window with no view. The room itself was comfortable and clean, though the decor was a bit sterile and lacking in character. The shower was excellent, with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Overall, it was a comfortable stay and the convenience of the location made it a great base for exploring Detroit.

Second stay at the Westin Book Cadillac, for a two-night stay on the 22nd floor. Decor has been upgraded since my last stay, and the valet parking is a lot more efficient despite the fact that the text-to-summon-car function was not operable. The rooms were comfortable, though the ottoman seat at the desk was uncomfortable for working (not to mention one was right on top of the huge television screen, giving one a tan while working at the desk). The shower got warm quickly, and the bathroom amenities of Westin White Tea scent were fine (though the miniature lotion bottle was absurdly small). Enjoyed the bar one evening, which was spacious and lively. Also enjoyed the 23rd-level lounge which had a solid weekday breakfast (which was unfortunately not open on Saturday morning!).

I hate this new thing where you can’t control the thermostat in hotels everyone that I stay at in Detroit like this. You said it to 68 and it shut off in the middle of the night and you wake up sweating.
