Fabulous location right on the beach and a lovely easy walk into Cowes. Room adequate, floor was a bit “sticky”. It was during peak heatwave whilst we were there and though the hotel reception and corridors were very hot and stuffy our room was cool enough. We had breakfast at the hotel both mornings, there were classic full English buffet hot items but the fruit and cereal option was limited. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

If you haven’t stayed at the New Holmwood before you will be disappointed. Although badged as a hotel it is only a B&B guest house – no lunchtime or evening restaurant, no bar, mediocre breakfast (hot food not cooked to order, limited choice for cold breakfast with cheap orange juice, jams and marmalade), no staff on duty beyond 5pm and the door to the wonderful deck overlooking the Solent is locked from 5pm. Rooms are not serviced unless requested, cheap watery shower gel, plastic water glasses. If, like us (every year for the past 15+ years) you have stayed at the New Holmwood before you will be EXTEMELY disappointed. It is no longer the cosy, friendly New Holmwood we had come to love. Gone are the friendly staff who always seemed genuinely pleased to welcome us back each year. No drinks from the bar on the deck watching all the varied marine activity on the Solent from huge cruise liners to small yachts. No excellent evening dinners in the restaurant. The current staff are doing their best but their hands are tied, although certain reception staff need to be trained to look up from their screen, make eye contact and offer a friendly greeting to guests as they walk across the foyer. Blanking out guests is no way to make them feel welcome and important. I hope the owners monitor the reviews since the reopening in April 2026 and will take appropriate action. The New Holmwood has the best location of any hotel on the Isle of Wight. It would be a shame if it is allowed to wither. If it did one might conclude that the owners hope to demonstrate, in support of a planning application for change of use to a new block of flats, that it is no longer financially viable. If that were to happen, it would be a huge loss to Cowes.

Thi Holmwood is on a perfect location overlooking the beach, a 15 minute walk along the esplanade into the town. The rooms are clean and functional. However, this is not a hotel. At 5pm all staff leave. There is no where to get a drink, even a glass of water. Although the young staff are friendly, they couldn't offer any service without first checking with the manager. If you are looking for a hotel with a 24 hour reception and somewhere to get a drink or snack after 5pm, this is not the place for you. If you want a basic, clean room in a nice location then it will be fine for your needs.

My husband booked a deluxe room on the sea front for 2 nights and thought this hotel..which was confirmed as a hotel and restaurant.. would be great for a drink after our day exploring and then a meal without going out again. We found no staff at this hotel after 5pm! No bar!! No restaurant! 20 mins walk away closest! Couldn't even get a cold glass of water in 30 degrees heat! No way either or buying a cold drink and keeping it cool. The room was totally over expensive for what we paid for! Wasn't as clean either. Bed was super comfortable and shower and bath very good. Fire alarms went off twice early in the morning. Breakfast diabolical! Cheap bread cheap sausages. Beans and scrambled egg laying in dishes for too long. Asked for poached or fried eggs as on menu..told we are not doing them today!!!! Not much Cereal choice either. Not worth the money. Go somewhere else! We cancelled the second night as we would definitely not stay here again. Not as described or hoped for..or what we paid for!

I have stayed at the New Holmwood on many occasions when it was a Best Western Hotel it was excellent. However, I stayed there last Wednesday night. How disappointing. No staff on duty, no food, no bar, nothing was open. We were given a key code to access the hotel and the room, which was ok, but no staff really! The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. The room was tired, the bathroom was not clean, and overall, it was very poor. I wouldn't stay there again. The hotel has such potential, but not in that state. We did book a few weeks ago, but they had a hot water problem and informed us no hot water. However, they wound not accept a cancellation or give us a refund. It was only after much arguing we were given a voucher for last week's stay. I wish they hadn't

Having taken two holidays at the hotel previously, I was really looking forward to this long weekend. The hotel faces the Solent with almost a 180° view across the water. Unfortunately, one of the real draws for me at the hotel, was having a night cap on the terrace with my daughter and enjoying the view. However, the bar has been closed so that option was sadly unavailable. The rooms and general areas were clean but there appeared to be a skeleton staff in attendance which didn’t help with the friendly atmosphere of previous visits. Sadly, I have no plans to return which is a great shame..

The location of this once fantastic hotel is amazing. Sadly it is no longer a hotel, but it’s an expensive B&B. We had our room booked for almost a year, and I thought it was a bit odd that I was asked to pay for my room before we arrived. This had never happened before. We arrived not really expecting what we found. The receptionist was a lovely man who had trouble checking the group in, under 2 bookings, it was obvious that this gentleman was stressed with the process he was trying to follow. The manager walked in part way through the checkin. She recongnised our friends, who have used this hotel for almost 20 years, and was disappointed that the check in system was not working correctly. It took days to get sorted, as the pricing was incorrect. The rooms were virtually the same as they were before, but there is now nowhere to get a drink. The bar is closed. No water in the rooms. No food available apart from the sorry, dried out, ruined breakfast. It turns out that the ‘new owners’ live in Cyprus and want the New Holmwood to be like that. But, the Isle of Wight is. It like Cyprus 🙄 All those lovely staff, that have been there for years, have been ‘let go’ apart from, maybe 2 that I recognised. There are sad to be a workforce of 35, now there is 7! Rooms are not cleaned unless you say you want it cleaned. Then you get your bed made and towels changed. It was so disappointing and sad to see such a lovely, happy hotel become soulless and drab.

We used to visit here regularly when it was still up and running as a proper hotel and had many fantastic times here and wonderful food. Well, my sister and I booked into here as we were visiting family who live in Cowes and we were shocked. We were given the key to our room and found our way along the corridor to what was, to be honest, fairly ok in as much as it looked pretty clean but the problem for us was the smell. It just smelt of cheesy feet and looked very dated. We just could not believe how a hotel in a prime position on the front had become like this with no facilities to even sit and have a drink, absolutely nothing there other than a room. We left and were lucky enough to find a room in another place close by. I think this place needs to be closed down. Maybe just worse for us as we knew what a great place it was before, but it is certainly not now.

Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean and well furnished. I didn’t spend much time here but it made an excellent base for activities and it’s handy for all the amenities of Cowes whilst being quiet. I didn’t have a room with a view but I’d recommend, the outlook would be amazing!
